Babe, The Gallant Pig

A touching, tender film about finding one's place in the world. Narrated by Roscoe Lee Brown, whose comforting, paternal voice augments this happy tale ("A little pig goes a long way,"), it tells a story of pluck and serendipity that all children will love.

At the county fair, Farmer Hoggett (Cromwell) wins a runt piglet plucked from a factory farm -- which is shown briefly and well, in an informative, sinister but not intimidating light. Hoggett takes the piglet home to his best sheepdog, Fly (Margolys), who mothers Babe -- as the piglet decides to name himself (voice by Cavanaugh). With Fly's help, and Farmer Hoggett's stern-faced (but warm-hearted) coaching, Babe becomes a sheepherding pig of the first order, but not without interesting plot twists and turns. With a bunch of oddball friends like Ferdiand the duck (Mann) -- who thinks he's a rooster -- Babe finds he has it in him to become great, and how, with friends and mentors, to do it.
